Weekend Happenings

It has been a busy busy weekend to say the least.

We had so much fun at Bryan and Katie's barn wedding!

I went to the granite place for the third time this week.  I am in love with this slab minus the couple of iron deposits it has.  The company is checking with their distributor in Atlanta so see how many other Arabesco slabs they have and if they have iron deposits as well.

Rich continued assembly on the kitchen.  I helped with drawers!

We also had this little guy come by who was more then happy to help :)

I filled up my tank with less then $3 gas!

We had Sunday dinner at Papaw's house.

Memee cooked this amazing Caribbean chicken dish!   It was delish!

I went through some of my great grandmother's pictures.  She lived to be 105!

One side of the kitchen is 75% complete!  Rich and the Phillips crew did such a great job getting everything installed just right!  So glad my family is so handy :)

The rest of my house looks like this...hopefully only one more week of cooking out of two rooms.

So Far So Good

The guys made some progress tonight and we did another test layout to make sure everything is going to fit.

So far so good!

Oh and if you have never put anything together from IKEA watch out because the directions have no words...

Tomorrow I am going to analyze granite again!

Count Down To Home Cooking...5

I had a great dinner with my friend Jessica tonight!  She made homemade pizza and we started planning her son's first birthday party!

So YUMMY!  Jessica's meal has inspired my count down to be being able to cook for real in my kitchen.  I hope that I will only have four more posts about the kitchen with the 5th one being the first meal cooked in the new kitchen!

I had Rich put on two doors...I could not wait!

I picked out a new granite today.  It is called Arabesco and has a lot more white in it and looks clean and crisp with the cabinets.  I think it is the winner!

Since the cabinets arrived Rich has been doing all the assembling.  He is doing such a great job!

I have been supervising of course :)

I carry a cabinet every now and then in between staring at my new mantel!

First Day Of Summer

Weekend Happenings

We had a busy weekend and the fun will continue this week!

I worked in the yard transplanting some veggies to a sunnier spot with hopes they will grow grow grow!

I sorted and stored Northern white beans.
For two people Rich and I have an outrageous food bill so in an effort to be frugal I bought dried beans instead of canned beans.

We enjoyed fireworks from the roof to celebrate the end of Riverbend.

Father's Day!

Christopher and Rich drew my Papaw's '40 Ford for a nice backdrop to our hot dog lunch.
 Dad about to chow down.

Adding ice and salt

Waiting, waiting, waiting

So worth it!  Homemade peach ice cream!

Monday was a big day.  Papaw installed our beautiful mantel.  I am in love with it!
It is so perfect....I could go on and on!  It is the icing on the cake for the fireplace make over, and the fact that papaw made it makes it so special!

Our cabinets were also delivered Monday afternoon.  That doesn't look like a whole kitchen's worth of cabinets does it?!?   But everything is there, we just have to put it together.

Love my sink!

This is what Rich has assembled as of last night.  I can't judge it yet.  Nothing is secured to the walls, and the doors will go on last...But so far my only comment is, they are big.  I guess I was just getting used to having empty open space.

Rich is hard at work as I type and our goal is to have everything assembled by the weekend.

Weekend Happenings

We went to the annual Riverbend Festival in Chattanooga and saw Eric Church preform.

I completed a NO sew project for my makeup area.

With the help on my trusty tools I was able to recover and a skirt to my old make up stool.  Sorry I forgot to take a before picture.

I think it turned out pretty good considering I can't sew.

Flattered?

So you may run across THIS blog that looks identical to mine.

I don't really mind that the background is the same, it was a free one I found on Google, but the fact that the background and the name are identical to mine...well that is a little much.

I was not flattered....that this girl completely copied my blog!  I asked politely about three weeks ago for her just to change her name.  I mean why would you want the same name and look as someone else?  Anyway she has not changed anything about her blog, so I am changing the look of mine.  It may be a mess around here until I figure out what I am doing.

Happy Weekend!

Crown Jewel

As my grandma always says, "to each his own."  But whoever thought that covering up a brick fireplace with 12 x 12 black tiles would look good was wrong!

Had the previous owners just left the brick exposed, we simply would have painted it and gone on.

Since painting was not a option, we decided that we would cover the hearth with stone and then sheet rock the rest.

Rich and Nathan laid the stone.

Adam helped with the sheet rock.

Now Papaw is putting on the crown jewel!  He is building the mantel, and came over today with the prototype to double check size and measurements.  I cannot wait to see the final product!  I am so lucky to have all these handy men in my life!
