Our master bathroom is not quite complete, but we are on the home stretch.  Unfortunately, I did not take too many before pictures but let me assure you the bathroom was ugly and the layout was strange to say the least.  Here are a couple pictures of what it looked like before and during renovation.

The shower was tiled in 6 x 6 peach with a black border and had one shower head.

"His" side of the bathroom.  

Separating the "his" side from "hers" was a saloon style swinging door with a toilet in the middle....it was strange...

"Her" side of the bathroom was PINK!

 

 As with most of the rest of the house we ripped out everything.  As my dad said, and now we know first hand, "the demo is the cheap easy part; putting it all back together is the expensive and hard part."

All the tile from the floor to the walls came down.

Rich tore out the soffit above "his" vanity.

All these walls came down because they were covered in tile.  These studs with the support at the top was once a linen closet, it all came down as well!

Once we were literally down to bare walls, Phillips plumbing came in to plumb our double vanity and our double shower. 

This is what it looks like today.  All we are using right now is the shower.  As you can see we are minus a vanity and toilet.  The blue hole will be the location of the toilet and the double vanity will be right beside it.

I hired a tile guy to lay the tile. If I had to do it over again, it may have taken us a month, but I would have done it myself.  He did a good job but I feel like I could have done just as good as he did...  In the main part of the bathroom we went with 12 x 12  polished marble laid on diagonal to make the bathroom look larger.

I am in love with my shower!  Since the shower is roughly 5'x4', Dad talked us in to putting in two shower heads.  So glad we did!  The other side of the shower is a mirror image of this picture, but off set.

We put 1" Carrera  marble hexagon tiles on the shower floor and in the insets.  On the walls we used 3"x6" subway tiles.

This floor is my favorite part of the bathroom so far!

So what is left? 

Just a small laundry list of things...

1.Pick out/install lights

2.Install toilet

3. Purchase a real shower door

4.Wait patiently for the vanity to arrive!

I ordered the vanity two weeks ago so it should be installed on the week of May 7th.  Who knew it took 6 to 7 weeks to make a vanity... 

I wanted to pick up the gray color in the marble so the vanity will be gun metal gray.

So what did we do with "her" side of the bathroom?  It will be my closet of course!  We have not put up any shelving yet because I have not decided on a layout.

5. Finish Callie's closet

The tile is being installed at Twin Brook, and so far I am thrilled with how it is turning out!  The only hiccup we have encountered is that the tile man quoted a standard install, which would have meant laying the tile on the bathroom floor is a straight line and using porcelain or ceramic tile.  I chose marble tile which requires a special blade to cut and wanted it laid on a diagonal which requires a lot more cuts...who knew...So what seemed like easy choices for me meant more work for the tile man equaling a bigger bill for Rich and Callie.  Lesson learned: Always ask lots of questions and assume nothing. At least he told us before he began the work.

   Dad and Christopher added a second shower head and moved the existing head to a new location.  I had Rich build two insets for bath products in hopes of not having a shower caddy.  I do not consider myself a person with a lot of clutter, but even so I am trying to cut back and only have out the things I need rather then multiples of shampoo, condition, and face wash.

I think that the shower floor is going to be my favorite part!

 I have not had that much to do around Twin Brook, which has been nice because I have been working on fun projects.  This is the door to my built in ironing board; one of the few original things I loved about the house.  I am painting the panels of the door with green chalk board paint.  I thought it would be fun and unexpected!

P.S.  I am taking Rich on his first IKEA trip Sunday.  We are going to look at kitchen cabinets.  I want to go pull and tug on them and test their durability.  I have done some research and most people have been very please with the quality but I want to see for myself, as I am still skeptical.  

Christmas

This is as festive as it got at my house for Christmas.  I usually put out tons of Christmas decorations but since I am trying to pack this is all I could muster.

Richard's family came over on Friday and Rebecca made all the ladies button letters!  LOVE!

We dinned on beans and greens!  So delish! 

We spent Christmas Eve and Christmas morning with my family.

My aunt and uncle got my parents the cutest garden snail made out of recycled metal.

Breakfast was cranberry/sausage quiche,Swiss and ham rolls, homemade sticky buns, and fruit salad. 



With all this time off you can bet that I have kept my helpers busy!  Christopher and Chloe have been painting trim and we are almost done.

Rich has been working hard on the bathroom.  We are going to try and have the tile laid right after the new year if I can ever get it on order...



I want to use porcelain tile that looks like Carrara marble.  I am going with porcelain because it is more durable and not as porous as marble.

We are going to put a 12 x 12 on the bathroom floor.

On the shower floor I am going with a 1" hexagon.  This will also be used as a accent in the shower shelves that we are putting in. 



Michelle's bathroom over at Ten June was my inspiration!  We are going with the 3" x 6" subway tiles for the shower walls just like Michelle.

Love love her grey vanity!  Not sure what color I am going to paint mine just yet, but this grey is looking good ;)

Well hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and are ready for the new year!  I am hoping to just enjoy 2012.  2010 was all about the wedding and now 2011 we have been working on the house non stop...I am ready to just enjoy 2012 without any huge projects!
